The 21st century is steadily paving way to a whole new type of education which surpasses the four walls of a classroom. The aim of the Psychology Department is to strike a balance between in-class work and learning that extends beyond the classroom. Both the Student Research Community and Psychology Speakers’ Forum undertake a side by side approach in providing experiences that complement a student’s in-class coursework. Presentations and activities developed by both the Student Research Community and Psychology Forum were purposefully designed to expose students to scientific forms of inquiry, cutting edge research, and evidenced based approaches taken to comprehend human behavior and treat mental illness.
The East Campus Student Research Community (SRC) was designed to provide a rich learning environment for students interested in various aspects of research. This research oriented community is comprised of students, faculty, and staff seeking to expand research knowledge and opportunities at Valencia College. The SRC community will serve as an informational resource and venue for students to explore and present cutting edge research in all disciplines. All research efforts will contribute to Valencia College’s ongoing effort to support and advance all forms of inquiry.

The Psychology Speakers’ Forum is intended to give Valencia students an opportunity to meet with and hear from educators and professionals in the field of Psychology. We believe this exposure is beneficial to students and fosters success in their academic, intellectual, and personal lives.

It is our goal that participation in our organizations will serve as a catalyst for students to pursue their career interests and share the same passion for psychology as those in our community. The Psychology Forum and Student Research Community hold many events throughout the term. Be sure to check out these events on the calendar.
